How the Pieces Move -- The Queen

Queens move in straight lines, any number of squares, either horizontally, vertically, or along the diagonals.  In other words, a queen combines the powers of a bishop and a rook.  Observe the diagram below this paragraph.  The white queen may move in a straight line in any direction, horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, any number of squares, up to the edge of the board, as long as her path is unimpeded.  Note that the white queen may move east any number of squares, up to and including the square directly before the square which houses the white knight.  Note that the white queen may also move along the southwesterly diagonal any number of squares, up to and including the square directly before the square which houses the black rook; or the white queen may capture the black rook by removing the black rook from the board and moving into the square which the black rook previously occupied.
