White to move and win

[need a hint?]     [Solution]     [archive]

1.Re8 Qxe8

Note that 1...Rxe8 loses via checkmate: 2.Qxd5+ Qxd5 3.Bxd5+ Re6 4.Bxe6 mate.

2.Bxd5+ Rxd5 3.Qxd5+

Double attack: the queen gives check, which Black must attend to; meanwhile the lonely, and unprotected, knight is hanging too.  Black can't save both the knight & his king!

3...Qf7 4.Qxa5

White is a knight ahead, and once he gets his pieces developed, that should be enough to secure the victory.
