Solution

Today's position comes from ICCF-GM Yoav Dothan's excellent look into the K+R vs K+R+B endgame in today's News & Notes #10 .  Analysis shown is by Dothan, your humble Editor, Fritz 8 and the following website: http://chess.jaet.org/endings/.

Ciuksyte,D (2440) - Littlewood,J (2244)
ch-EU Liverpool ENG (6), 11.09.2006

Dothan tells us that only 1...Ka6 draws.  Other tries:

1...Ka4 2.Kc5 Rg4 3.Rh3 (3.Re3; 3.Rf3) 3...Ka5 (3...Rg5 4.Rh8 Ka3 5.Rh2 Rxd5+; 3...Rf4 4.Bc6+ Ka5 5.Ra3+ etc) 4.Rh8 Rg6  Other moves are mate-in-two. 5.Rb8 Rh6 6.Rb3 Rh4 7.Bf3 Rf4 8.Bc6 Rf5+ 9.Bd5 Rf4 10.Rb5+ Ka4 11.Rb8 Ka3 12.Rb3+ Ka4 13.Re3 Rf5 14.Re2 Rxd5+  The only way to stave off mate a few moves longer.

1...Ka5 2.Kc5 Rg4 3.Rb1 Rh4 4.Rb7 Rh6 5.Bf7 Rf6 6.Bc4 Rf5+ 7.Bd5 Rf6 8.Rb5+ Ka6 (8...Ka4 9.Rb2) 9.Rb1 Ka7 10.Rb7+ Ka6 11.Re7 Rf5 12.Re8 And once again Black is reduced to 12...Rxd5+
